 As  someone born in the United States to a family of immigrants, I grew up   conscious of   the extensive efforts it takes to apply for legal citizenship. While a majority percentage of immigrants living in the U.S. have legal citizenship,   ten million unauthorized immigrants make up the remainder with    no way to become naturalized citizens.   The phrase "get in line" is often used referring to undocumented immigrants,  with the belief that they could apply to legal citizenship  while already living in the U.S. In reality, the path to American citizenship presents endless difficulties to undocumented  immigrants, making what  many Americans could consider a simple path to be an impossible   mountains to cross.   I created these graphics as conversations starters about the American naturalization process, in hopes that even a few fast facts  shed light on the need to  "pave the path"  for all American immigrants towards legal citizenship.
